The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Hilo Community Policing Section is hosting the family-friendly event and tournament from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium. Along with kendama, there will also be food booths, collectible vendors, and other activities.

A Kendama is a traditional Japanese skill toy similar to the cup-and-ball game that is played by tossing the ball into the air and attempting to catch it on the stick point. It has since evolved into a popular modern competitive sport and action hobby

Registration for the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Competition brackets will be divided into two skill levels: beginner and experienced. Each bracket will have divisions for elementary, intermediate, and high school participants.

The top two winners from each division will also win a special prize.

For more information, please contact Lieutenant Ryan Pagan of the Hilo Community Policing Section at (808) 961-2350 or ryan.pagan@hawaiipolice.gov.
