The results published are preliminary. Hawai‘i County Clerk Jon Henricks said they will be finalized by the state about two weeks after the election.

O’Hara, who is running for the District 4 seat to represent lower Puna and Pāhoa, was ahead with 2,720 votes, with Lloyd Enriquez garnering 2,683, according to the second printout that published at 9:07 p.m. Whoever wins will take the place of Council Member Ashley Kierkiewicz, who is terming out after serving for eight years.
