A wind advisory for Big Island summits is canceled; however, a high wind warning will be going into effect for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, starting at 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 80 mph are expected. The advisory is expected to last until noon on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Winds this strong can make driving and walking dangerous. The winds can forcefully open doors and damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

The public is advised to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.
