A wind advisory is in place for Big Island summits until Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, west winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected. The advisory is expected to last until 6 a.m.

Winds this strong can make driving and walking dangerous. The winds can forcefully open doors and damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

The public is advised to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.
