Authorities arrest Pāhala man accused of pointing pellet gun at manʻs head
Authorities have arrested Jerry "Mana" Ke of Pāhala following a dramatic confrontation on Oct. 2
Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested and charged a 31-year-old Pāhala man with multiple offenses following an incident involving several victims at a shopping complex Friday.
Authorities said Kaʻū patrol officers responded shortly before 1 p.m. on Oct. 2 to a shopping center in the 96-3100 block of Pikake Street after receiving a report of a man pointing a gun at another person.
Upon arrival, officers contacted a 25-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman.
Police said the two reported that a man, later identified as Jerry “Mana” Ke, had pointed a pellet gun directly at them in separate incidents.
The male victim told police that Ke pointed the gun directly at his head. Police said Ke also physically assaulted the female victim and a bystander who attempted to intervene.
When a female family member of Ke’s arrived at the scene, police said Ke assaulted her as well.
Officers recovered an air rifle and an unknown-caliber pellet at the scene, according to police. Ke was arrested at the scene. After consulting with the Hawaiʻi County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, police charged him with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of third-degree assault and one count of abuse of a family or household member.
Ke’s total bail was set at $13,000.
He remains in police custody Monday in lieu of bail. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5, in Kona District Court.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311. Information may also be provided to Kaʻū Patrol Officer Israel Mata at 808-939-2520 or israel.mata@hawaiipolice.gov.
