Puna ʻŌpio Hub to offer free job skills workshops for transitional age youth
The two-part workshop series is meant to empower youth aged 14-25 with practical tools for employment success on Oct. 7 and Oct. 21.
A two-part Level Up Your Job Skills workshop series will help transitional age youth from 14 to 25-years old build the skills and confidence needed to take the next step toward employment.
Neighborhood Place of Puna is hosting the workshops from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and Wednesday, Oct. 21 at the Puna ʻŌpio Hub in Hawaiian Paradise Park. Youth are encouraged to attend both sessions, which will build on each other to provide practical tools for navigating the job search process.
During the first workshop, participants will learn how to strengthen job search skills, learn about essential workplace skills, identify and recognize both hard and soft skills and learn how to effectively present skills and strengths on a resume.
The second workshop will then dive into exploring simple ways to find job opportunities in their communities, identify red flags, recognize legitimate job opportunities and gain tools and confidence to make a great first impression.
“Finding a first job or figuring out what comes next can feel overwhelming,” said Esperanza Figueroa, youth specialist at Puna ʻŌpio Hub. “These workshops are designed to give young people practical tools they can use right away, while helping them recognize the strengths and skills they already bring to the table.”
The workshops are free, but preregistration is required. Registration can be completed online.
Operating five days a week, Puna ʻŌpio Hub provides a welcoming space for youth ages 14 to 25 to connect with resources, build skills, explore education and career opportunities, and work toward their goals.
The Puna ʻŌpio Hub is located at Connection Point Church of the Nazarene, 15-1839 32nd Avenue, in Keaʻau. Hours of operation are from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.
