Two Coffee with a Cop events set for Hilo this Thursday
In honor of International Coffee Day, the Hawai‘i Police Department’s Hilo Community Policing Section is hosting two Coffee with a Cop events this Thursday.
Both events will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Oct. 1 at the following locations in Hilo:
- Big Island Roasters, 76 Kalanianaole Avenue
- Starbucks Puainako, 111 Puainako Street
These popular events are intentionally informal with no agenda. Topics of conversation can range from sharing personal stories to discussing neighborhood issues.
For those unable to attend Thursday’s events, the department will hold several Coffee With a Cop events across the island on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in honor of the 10th annual national Coffee With a Cop Day. Locations and times to be announced later this week.

Police to hold first annual Diaper Drive in Kona this Saturday
A Diaper Drive aims to support Hawai‘i Island families in need by providing essential diapers and toddler pull-ups to families who may be experiencing financial hardship.
Hawaii Police Department’s Kona Community Policing Section is hosting the first annual Fill-A-Cruiser Diaper Drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the entrance of the Kona Walmart.
The cost of diapers and other basic baby supplies can place a significant financial burden on parents, especially for families already struggling to meet everyday expenses. By collecting and providing these essential items, more keiki will have the supplies they need to stay clean, healthy, and comfortable.
A blue-and-white marked police cruiser will be stationed at the store entrance. Members of the public are encouraged to donate baby diapers, toddler pull ups, and baby wipes in hopes of filling a police cruiser to capacity with donated items.
Diaper donations collected during the event will be distributed to a nonprofit organization, LIV Pregnancy & Women’s Wellness, at its three locations island-wide to help relieve the severe financial strain for families who cannot afford to purchase baby supplies.
