Young performers shine at 2nd annual HI-PAL Music Showcase
Earlier this month, 9 Big Island youth shared their talents on stage during the 2nd annual HI-PAL Music Showcase in Kona.
Young performers showcased their musical talents to families, community members, and supporters earlier this month.
The Hawaiʻi Police Activities League (HI-PAL) hosted the second annual Music Showcase on Sept. 5 at the ʻOhana Court on the University of the Nations campus in Kona. Emceed by Tommy “Kahikina” Ching, nine performances featured a variety of musical talent.

Following the performances, London West was named the first-place winner and also received the People’s Choice Award. London was presented with medals and plaques, a ʻukulele, and was awarded the opportunity to record a single.
Tyrie Aono was the first runner-up and received a medal, plaque, and ʻukulele. Ryley Antonio was the second runner-up and received a medal and plaque.
Nā Leo Kū, winners of the inaugural HI-PAL Music Showcase, returned to open this year’s event. Judge and recording artist Henna Melody also performed her single, “Future.”
Each contestant was recognized with a medal in appreciation of their participation, hard work, and willingness to share their talents on stage.
This year’s judges included Eddie ʻO, ʻAla Kawaʻauhau, and Henna Melody, who volunteered their time, experience, and expertise and provided encouragement and support to each of the young performers.
HI-PAL plans to continue the Music Showcase to provide young people with an opportunity to share their talents, build confidence, connect with their community, and experience the value of hard work and positive achievement.
