30-year-old sweet family business celebrates new Hilo home
Family and employees of Big Island Delights gathered on Monday for a traditional blessing of the new space.
Big Island Delights has moved to a new location in Hilo that combines its bakery operations and retail storefront under one roof.
The 30-year-old family-owned and operated business, formerly at 762 Kanoelehua Ave., now is at 374 Kinoʻole St.
The company, founded by Jeff and Carla Takamine in 1996, specializes in cookies and confections made with premium ingredients, including 100% Hawaiʻi-grown macadamia nuts. Its product line has expanded over the years to include local teas, gift baskets and Hawaiʻi-made items.
“This new home means so much to our family,” said Christin Takamine, daughter of Jeff and Carla, in a news release. “Big Island Delights was built through the hard work and values of my parents, and we wanted this space to honor what they created while giving us an opportunity to carry it forward for the next generation.”
Family and employees gathered on Monday for a traditional blessing of the new space, recognizing both the company’s history and the generations who will carry Big Island Delights forward.
