Hawaiʻi police identify man killed in traffic collision in Ocean View
Hawaiʻi police identified 45-year-old Jason Jay Spurgeon of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision as the man who was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Saturday, Aug. 15, in Ocean View.
On Aug. 15, police responded to a motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Aloha Boulevard and Lehua Lane at 1:17 p.m. in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.
Investigators determined that a gold 2021 Kia Seltos, operated by Spurgeon, was traveling westbound (mauka) on Aloha Boulevard when it crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with a silver 2000 Nissan Altima. The Nissan was operated by a 21-year-old woman, also from Hawaiian Ocean View Estates (HOVE).
Spurgeon was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 p.m. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The 21-year-old woman was transported to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition and has since been released.
