Hawaiʻi County, National Weather Service monitor tropical disturbance southeast of Big Island

The remnants of Tropical Disturbance 15E continue to produce showers and thunderstorms that are starting to show signs of organization.

Environmental conditions could lead to the formation of a tropical depression or storm over the next few days. This could pose a threat of flooding rains and high winds to Hawaiʻi Island as early as Wednesday, potentially lingering into the weekend.

According to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center, there is a 60 percent chance of formation through 48 hours and 90 percent through seven days.

As a precaution, residents of Hawaiʻi Island are advised to remain vigilant and use this time to develop personal, family, and business emergency preparedness plans for possible heavy rain and windy conditions.
