UPDATE: 76-year-old Gary Maggard has been found

Update at 8:21 p.m. Sept. 2, 2026: Big Island police report 76-year-old Gary Maggard, who was previously reported as missing and endangered and last seen in Ocean View, was located and is in good health.

Story originally posted at 4:18 p.m. Sept. 2, 2026: Hawaiian police are searching for endangered and missing person Gary Maggard, who was last seen in Ocean View on Monday, Sept. 2.

Maggard is described as having gray beard and hair, shoulder-length hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo of an eagle on his left forearm. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 240 pounds.

He was last seen at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, in Ocean View, wearing a blue tank top and blue jeans. He was operating a purple older model Isuzu Rodeo with Hawaiʻi license plate ZDA 210.
