Update at 6:28 p.m. Aug. 25, 2026: Hawai‘i Island police notified the public shortly before 6 p.m. Aug. 25 that 14-year-old Akira Cordeiro, who was previously reported as a runaway, was located later Aug. 24 in Kea‘au in good health.

Hawai‘i Police Department thanks the public for its assistance in the case.

Story originally posted at 11:42 a.m. Aug. 24, 2026: Hawai‘i Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating 14-year-old girl from Pāhoa, who was reported as a runaway.

Akira Cordeiro was last seen on Vista Drive in the Ainaloa subdivision on Sunday at 11 a.m., wearing a red athletic jersey and stretch material shorts. She is Caucasian with a fair complexion, medium build, about 5 feet 3 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.

Police ask anyone with information on Akira’s whereabouts to call the police department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311 or contact Officer Chase Rasse at Chase.Rasse@hawaiipolice.gov.
