Motorists traveling along Keaʻau-Pāhoa Road (Highway 130) in Puna should expect delays Aug. 29 due to the Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply installing a new water service.

The work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Highway 130 between Puakalo Street and Kaloli Drive in Pāhoa.

The project originally was scheduled for Aug. 22 but was delayed due to Hurricane Lala recovery.

During construction, the Keaʻau-bound lane of the highway will be closed, with alternating, one-lane traffic in place through the work area.

Police officers and message boards will be stationed in the area to alert motorists and help direct traffic.

Drivers are advised to expect delays, use caution and allow additional travel time while the work is underway.

The Department of Water Supply said it apologizes for the temporary inconvenience.

Motorists with questions about the project can contact Daniel Taka Jr., district supervisor, at 808-961-8790.
