Kaʻū water systems issue precautionary boil notice for customers in Punaluʻu, Wood Valley

Two rural public water systems in Kaʻū advise customers about a precautionary boil water notice.

Customers of Punaluʻu Water and Sanitation Public Water System and Wood Valley Water and Farm Co-op Public Water System should not drink or use water from their faucets without boiling it first.

Punaluʻu Water and Sanitation serves about 200 part- and full-time customers along ʻAlahaki and Nīnole roads in the Punaluʻu area. Wood Valley Water and Farm Co-op serves about 100 customers in Wood Valley.

Both water systems sustained heavy damage from Hurricane Lala, losing pressure in distribution lines.

They report alternative sources of water are available; however, the precautionary advisories address any water in the distribution system that could have been compromised because of flood water inundation.

Water system testing also has not been completed because of post-storm conditions.
