Authorities charge woman in string of Hawaiʻi Island property crimes

A 47-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with multiple burglary, theft, and auto theft offenses stemming from five separate property crime investigations on Hawaiʻi Island, according to authorities.
Kathryn Sadecki was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 9, after Kona patrol officers responded shortly before 7:40 a.m. to a report of a burglary in progress at a restaurant in the 75-5000 block of Aliʻi Drive in Kailua-Kona.
The restaurant owner, who was monitoring the business remotely through surveillance cameras, reported seeing an unauthorized woman inside the closed restaurant. Officers found Sadecki inside and took her into custody.
Authorities said surveillance footage showed Sadecki climbing over a balcony railing, accessing the rooftop, and entering the restaurant.
The footage also showed her tampering with surveillance cameras, searching parts of the restaurant, and consuming food and beverages belonging to the business.
During the arrest, officers found a Hyundai vehicle key in Sadecki’s possession.
Investigators determined the keys belonged to a Hyundai Tucson that had been reported stolen from a residence in the 76-6000 block of Ali‘i Drive.
Police had recovered the Hyundai the previous evening, Aug. 8, from a grocery store parking lot in the 75-900 block of Henry Street in Kailua-Kona. Sadecki had been investigated there after employees reported seeing her consume merchandise and leave without attempting to pay.
A search of the recovered Hyundai turned up several personal items belonging to Sadecki, police said.
Sadecki also faces charges related to an Aug. 4 burglary at an unoccupied residence in the 78-100 block of Hōlua Road in Kailua-Kona. Investigators determined the home had been entered without permission and later connected evidence recovered from the residence to Sadecki.
In a separate case, authorities charged Sadecki with the theft of a 2026 BMW iX M70 from a residence in the Waikoloa area.
The vehicle was found in Ocean View in July after residents reported suspicious activity involving it. Investigators determined the BMW had been stolen from the Waikoloa property, which had also been burglarized.
Police said surveillance footage identified Sadecki as one of the individuals associated with the vehicle.
Sadecki faces charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, two counts of first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and two counts of fourth-degree theft.
Her bail was set at $87,000. Her initial court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11.
