Wildfire advisory issued for Kawaihae area because of wildland fire in South Kohala

Hawai‘i Fire Department issued a wildfire advisory for Kawaihae because of a wildland fire in South Kohala.

Because of the wildland fire:

• The following roads are closed: Kawaihae Road, from Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway intersection to Waiaka Bridge in Waimea. Hawai‘i Police Department advises motorists to that the portion of Kawaihae Road will be closed for at least the next 6 hours. Use Waikoloa Road as an alternate route.
• The following roads are open: ʻAkoni Pule Highway and Waikoloa Road.
• Expect traffic delays. Avoid the area when possible.

No communities are threatened.

Hawai‘i County Civil Defense said updates will be provided should conditions change.
