Registration open for 2026 ‘Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament

Big Island anglers fishing for their next big catch story have an opportunity next month to reel it in.

Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation announces registration is now open for the 28th annual ‘Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament from Aug. 28-30.

Registration packets/forms — along with tournament rules — are available at:

  • Parks and Rec facilities islandwide.
  • J. Hara Store in Kurtistown.
  • S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo.
  • Hawaiian Island Creations in Waimea.
  • A. Arakaki Store in Kohala.
  • POP Fishing and Marine in Kailua-Kona.

The forms also can be found at the Hawai‘i County Parks and Recreation website.

Completed registration forms must be mailed to the Recreation Division Office at 799 Pi‘ilani St. in Hilo, postmarked by July 31.

Only mailed entries will be registered. No late entries will be accepted.

Make checks payable to Hawai‘i County Director of Finance.

Six separate divisions are offered:

  • Men (18 to 54 years old).
  • Women (18 to 54 years old).
  • Teen (13 to 17 years old).
  • Keiki (5 to 12 years old).
  • Kūpuna (55 years old and older).
  • ‘Ohana.

Participants are only allowed to enter one individual division; however, they can also be part of an ‘Ohana division team.

There will be an invasive species division all entrants are automatically entered in, plus an art contest. No extra registration fees are needed for those divisions.

Artworks should be mailed with registration materials, along with payment.

Weigh-ins will be conducted from noon until 1:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at Honoka‘a Sports Complex, located at 45-541 Lehua St., in Honoka‘a.

Entry fees are:

  • Men and Women divisions: $35.
  • Teen, Keiki and Kūpuna divisions: $30.
  • ‘Ohana division: $25 per team, which can consist of only one adult and up to three keiki or teens.

Valuable gift card prizes and awards will be presented for the top 10 heaviest fish in the Men, Women, Teen, Keiki and Kūpuna divisions.

The one participant who catches the most targeted invasive fish will win the invasive species category. Winning artwork will be featured on the 2027 ʻOhana Shoreline Fishing Tournament Flyer and the artist will receive a prize.
