Big Island Now just launched a major app update for mobile phones that will provide users with breaking news alerts, faster loading, easier navigation and all the latest local news, weather, entertainment and other content that also is available at BigIslandNow.com.

For those who do not have the app, it is available as a free download in the Apple App Store and on Google Play. You can click here for the app store links.

People who already have the Big Island Now app should update to the latest version in the Apple App Store or Google Play to access the newest features and improvements.

Wherever you go, it is easy to stay on top of major developments, including dangerous weather conditions and road closures, with breaking news alerts displayed at the top of the app.

The redesigned home screen features top stories, category shortcuts and an “In Case You Missed It” section.

“We are continuing to invest in better ways to keep the Big Island community informed, connected and engaged,” said Jack Dugan, chief operating officer for Pacific Media Group, which owns and operates BigIslandNow.com. “This app update helps us deliver local news more quickly and clearly.”

Users can listen to articles anytime, whether commuting, multitasking or relaxing at the beach.

For a more comfortable viewing experience across weather, events, jobs and other in-app pages, switch to dark mode.

Enjoy faster loading, smoother scrolling and a more responsive experience throughout the app. It enables easier refreshing and browsing of stories.

You can navigate the app faster with a floating tab bar and an improved layout designed for iPads.

The new app also makes it easier to connect with an updated comment section, improved sharing and a simpler sign-in experience.

For advertisers, exclusive in-app advertising opportunities are available. If you are interested in securing a placement, contact advertising@bigislandnow.com.
