Zonta Club of Hilo gives $20K in scholarships, awards to Big Island women
Zonta Club of Hilo awarded $20,000 in scholarships this year to several Big Island women, supporting its mission to build a better world for women and girls.
“Chartered in 1950, our club has made a difference on Hawai‘i Island for 76 years,” said Zonta Club of Hilo President Laurie Higashi in an announcement about this year’s awards.

Barbra An Pleadwell Scholarships totaling $5,000 were given to Fiona Eddy and Naneaikealaula Thomas.
Women’s Nursing Degree Scholarships totaling $9,000 were awarded to University of Hawai‘i at Hilo students Luche Ganot and Shyla Williams and Hawai‘i Community College students Leilihaupuaikawai Jung, Gabriella Ramos and Kaylee Stingel.
Young Woman in Leadership Awards totaling $6,000 were given to Princess Kaitlyn Mangoba, Zoe Russo and Teija Wada. Russo also advanced from the club level to compete for additional awards at the Zonta district and international levels.
Zonta Club of Hilo is member of Zonta International.
