Hawaiian Electric announced it plans to conduct aerial inspections of major overhead transmission lines across Hawaiʻi Island later this month as part of ongoing efforts to improve electric system reliability.

The inspections are scheduled to take place June 23 to 26 and will be conducted using a helicopter operated by Manuiwa Airways, according to Hawaiian Electric.

Flights are expected to occur between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day, although specific routes and schedules may change depending on weather conditions.

During the inspections, the helicopter may need to fly at lower altitudes and reduced speeds in certain areas to allow crews to closely examine transmission infrastructure. Residents may experience temporary increases in aircraft noise while the work is underway.

The utility said the inspections are part of its routine maintenance and monitoring program designed to identify potential issues before they affect service.
