This story was updated at 5:58 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Big Island police reported shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, that a teen girl previously missing since June 4, was located.
Authorities said in an email that 15-year-old runaway Makayla Nobriga was located Tuesday, June 9, in good health.
Hawai‘i Island police issued a plea to the public earlier the same day asking for help with finding the 4-foot-11, 100-pound, Hawaiian/white teen with light-brown shoulder-length hair, brown eyes and fair skin after she was last seen at about 7 a.m. June 4 on Kāhili Street in Honoka‘a.
She is known to frequent the Honoka‘a area.
The report of Makayla being found was made by Hawai‘i Police Department Sgt. Scott Dewey, who works on the east side of Hawai‘i Island in Hāmākua.
While he didn’t say in his update specifically where she was located, Honoka‘a is the largest community in the district and, as mentioned above, was the last place the reported runaway was seen.
It also is a favorite hangout spot for the teen.
