High surf, wind advisories issued for Hawai‘i Island
A high surf advisory was issued for east-facing shores of the Hawaiian Islands until 6 p.m. on Friday.
On Hawai‘i Island, high surf is expected on the north-, east- and south-facing shores.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, trade winds near and upstream of the state are generating surf above advisory levels with waves expected to reach 7 to 10 feet.
The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for Hawai‘i County in all districts with sustained winds of at least 30mph and gusts of at least 50 mph expected.
Impacts are expected to be moderate with strong-breaking waves and currents that will make swimming dangerous.
