Adaptive management authority rule change proposed for Hawaiʻi Island hunting
Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife is eyeing a change to adaptive management rules for hunting game birds and game mammals on Hawaiʻi Island.

The division has been working to extend previously approved changes for the island and plans to submit its proposed rule change for consideration by Hawaiʻi Board of Land and Natural Resources during its May 8 monthly meeting.
Tagged hunts conducted under previous adaptive management rules continued through the March 18 expiration date.
Until further board action, all hunts temporarily reverted to standard rules and Exhibit 1 for game birds and Exhibit 11 for game mammals in Chapter 13 of Hawaiʻi Administrative Rules.
Hunters are strongly encouraged to purchase hunting tags in person following the expiration date. Review existing regulations carefully and stay informed as the board meeting approaches.
Division of Forestry and Wildlife appreciates the patience and cooperation of Hawaiʻi’s hunting community and enforcement partners during this transitional period.
Officers and members of the public with questions are encouraged to contact the division directly.
Visit the Division of Forestry and Wildlife website or contact the Hilo office at 808-974-4221 for additional details and more information about the proposed measures.
