High surf advisory issued for east-facing shores of Big Island

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Hāmākua, North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna, Kāʻu of Hawaiʻi Island until 6 a.m. Thursday, April 23.

The advisory also is for the east-facing shores of Maui, Molokaʻi and Oʻahu.

A moderate size, medium period north northeast swell arriving Wednesday morning will peak east-facing shore surf to advisory levels.

The surf is forecast to reach heights of 10 feet, with shore breaks and dangerous currents that could cause injury or death. 

Beach-goers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution when entering the water.
