Federal disaster proclamation unlocks mortgage relief for storm-impacted Hawaiʻi residents
Governor Josh Green has issued an emergency proclamation for Hawaiʻi due to the imminent threat of the two recent Kona Low weather systems.

The move comes as recovery continues from recent storms that caused widespread flooding and damage across the islands.
On April 8, President Donald Trump approved a federal major disaster declaration for Hawaiʻi, making additional resources available to support recovery efforts and provide relief to affected residents.
According to the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, the federal declaration activates key mortgage relief protections for qualifying homeowners. These measures may include temporary foreclosure moratoriums, forbearance options and the waiver of certain late fees.
Officials are urging residents impacted by the Kona Low storms to contact their mortgage servicer or financial institution promptly to learn what assistance programs they may be eligible for.
