Story originally posted at 6:42 p.m. March 18, 2026: Hawai‘i Police Department alerts the public that a telephone outage is affecting the Waimea police station phone line. The department reported shortly before 5:30 p.m. today, March 18, that it is working to fix the issue.

Anyone who needs police assistance in the South Kohala District should call police dispatch at the non-emergency number of 808-935-3311 or 9-1-1 in cases of emergency.

Those who need to speak with a specific South Kohala police officer about an existing investigation should call the non-emergency number.

“We apologize for this interruption and will notify the public when it is resolved,” said Hawai‘i Police Department in an announcement about the phone issues.
