Radar indicated at 3:18 a.m. that periods of heavy rain were falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour over Kaʻū and Puna along the southeast slopes of the the island.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley, Pāhala, Volcano, Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach, Kawa Flats, Glenwood, Mountain View, Nāʻālehu, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland Estates, Pāhoa, Keaʻau, Hawaiian Ocean View, Fern Forest, Eden Roc, Fern Acres and Waiʻōhinu.
Minor flooding is expected on roads and in poor drainage areas and streams, as well as water over roadways. Some low-water crossings could become impassable.
Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
The public is advised to not cross fast-flowing or rising water in their vehicles or on
foot.
Remember: turn around, don’t drown.
