Remaining Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park flight operations for March

Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park still has several flight operations scheduled in March.

Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources and maintain backcountry facilities.

Remaining flight operations for March

  • Between 8 and 11 a.m. March 18: For invasive guinea grass control work in the coastal backcountry from sea level to 2,400-foot elevation.
  • Between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. March 23: For high-resolution mapping of park coastline from ʻĀpua Point to Halapē between sea level and 500-foot elevation to protect natural resources.
  • Between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. March 23 and 26: For native plant monitoring in the Pepeiao area between 500-foot and 2,500-foot elevation.
  • 7 a.m. to noon March 30: For external sling loads of fence material between 6,300-foot and 9,500-foot elevation on Mauna Loa.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory also might conduct additional flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.

Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors.
