During the week of Jan. 26, through Feb. 1, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1.
Two of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents.
There have been 64 DUI arrests so far in 2026 compared with 79 during the same period last year, a decrease of almost 19% from 2025.
Hilo took the top spot for number of DUI arrests during the week with a total of 8, which also sent it to the top of the list for year-to-date arrests at 21 total.

Hawai‘i Police Department Traffic Services Section also reviewed all updated crashes and tallied 99 major crashes so far this year, a 32% spike compared to 75 within the same time frame last year.
There were three fatal crashes and three fatalities as of Feb. 1 on Big Island roadways. That’s an increase of 50% for both compared to the two fatal crashes and 2 fatalities by the same time in 2025.
The non-traffic fatality count — or those crashes not on a public roadway — remains at none.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
