UPDATE: Hawai‘i Fire Department reports multi-structure fire in downtown Hilo now contained
Update at 5:59 a.m. Dec. 1, 2025: Hawai‘i Fire Department reports the fire that happened Sunday (Nov. 30) that involved multiple structures in downtown Hilo — along Kino‘ole Street and at the intersection of Kino‘ole and Haili Street — is now contained.

However, the incident area remains dangerous and can present hazardous conditions to the general public. The sidewalks are closed and blocked off, for the public’s safety, next to the area where the fire destroyed 4 buildings — across the street from McDonald’s, Downtown Sac ‘N Save and the Texaco service station.
Hawai‘i Police Department also reports that all streets in downtown Hilo are now open and thanked the public for its patience.
Hawai‘i County and several nonprofit organizations mobilized Sunday, as well, to help those who were displaced by the blaze and others who were evacuated from near the fire.

Law enforcement also reminds the community that because of an early morning Sunday (Nov. 30) multi-structure fire on Kino‘ole Street and at the intersection of Kino‘ole and Haili Street, closures continue for the following streets in downtown Hilo:
- Haili Street, between Ululani Street and Keawe Street.

Update at 8:26 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025: Hawai‘i Police Department reports that a multi-structure fire happened early Sunday morning involving at least one building in the 100 block of Kino‘ole Street and another at the intersection of Kino‘ole Street and Haili Street in downtown Hilo.
All buildings involved are mixed use, including commercial spaces and residential dwellings.

Hawai‘i County Hazard Impact Map information lists the address of the main structure as 185 Kino‘ole Street; however, a check on Google Maps says it is at 189 Kino‘ole Street.
The building at 140 Haili Street — which houses Olena’s Massage Center, Avani Yoga and Boutique as well as apartments above and is located at the intersection with Kino‘ole and across the street from McDonald’s to the southeast, diagonally across the corner from Downtown Sac ‘N Save to the southwest and across from Texaco to the west — was also involved.
Hawai‘i County Civil Defense reports that police closed off multiple streets in both directions downtown — including portions of Haili Street, Kino‘ole Street, Keawe Street and Kīlauea Avenue — because of the blaze.
Fire crews continue to work the fire scene and utility crews also responded to repair damaged lines.
The public should stay clear of the area. Motorists should use alternate routes, which include Kamehameha Avenue and Kapi‘olani Street.
The county’s hazard map also notes that lengthy closures should be expected.
