Neighborhood Place of Puna launches new Mobile Family Resource Center
Neighborhood Place of Puna recently launched a new Mobile Family Resource Center — a community-based initiative designed to bring resources, support services and family-strengthening programs directly to families around Hawaiʻi Island.
A blessing ceremony was hosted Nov. 17 at Neighborhood Place of Puna at Connection Point Church of the Nazarene in Keaʻau. Community members, partners and local leaders attended.

The Mobile Family Resource Center provides essential support services to families in underserved communities, visiting neighborhoods, schools and community hubs to bring accessible, free and confidential services to families with minor children.
“In a large rural community like Puna, transportation can be a major barrier for families seeking support,” said Neighborhood Place of Puna Executive Director Paul Normann in an announcement about the new resource. “By bringing the Family Resource Center directly into our communities, we’re able to meet families where they are, offer immediate assistance and build relationships that strengthen the well-being of our keiki and ʻohana.”
Services provided through the new Mobile Family Resource Center include:
- Emergency supplies such as food, diapers, wipes and hygiene items.
- Computer and phone access for job searches, applications and communication.
- Case management and resource navigation.
- Parenting support including coaching, classes and talk story connection opportunities.
- Housing support navigation and assistance for families experiencing or at risk of
homelessness.
The Mobile Family Resource Center serves as a safe and welcoming hub, offering supplies, activities, education and guidance to promote stable, nurturing home environments.
It also expands the reach of Neighborhood Place of Puna’s existing Family Resource Center, which provides free and voluntary support for families with minor children living in Hawaiʻi County.

“The Mobile Family Resource Center reflects our commitment to supporting families, increasing services and strengthening our communities,” said Normann. “Every family deserves access to support, dignity and connection. The Mobile Family Resource Center ensures no family is left behind because of isolation or lack of transportation.”
