Hawai‘i Island police identified human remains discovered in March inside an unfinished structure on Kona’s iconic Ali’i Drive.

The remains were identified as 41-year-old Alan Joseph Dush of Ocean View. What remained of his body was discovered March 24 in the unfinished building on the 75-0000 block of Ali’i Drive.

Foul play was not suspected in his death.

Police in October asked the public for help with identifying the remains after spending many months actively investigating the case themselves and coming up empty-handed.

Dush was dead several weeks before his body was found that day in late March, and the circumstances behind its discovery and appearance were also not consistent with any known missing persons.

“Police thank the public for their assistance,” said Hawai‘i Police Department in its release about the body’s identification.
