20-year-old from Puna charged in firearms incident on road in Hawaiian Paradise Park
Noa Lolohea, a 20-year-old from Puna, was arrested and charged in relation to a firearms incident that occurred on Sept. 17 on the roadway fronting a residence on 29th Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision, according to Hawaiʻi County Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen.
Lolohea was arrested on Wednesday for the incident and made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Friday. His bail was maintained at $261,000.
Lolohea was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 30.
In the complaint, Lolohea is charged with first degree reckless endangering; first degree terroristic threatening; ownership, possession or control of firearm prohibited; ownership, possession or control of ammunition prohibited; place to keep pistol or revolver; carrying or possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway; driving without a license; and third degree promoting a dangerous drug.
The most serious offenses — ownership, possession or control of firearm prohibited; place to keep pistol or revolver; and carrying or possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway — are all class B felony offenses and carry a maximum penalty of a 10-year prison term.
Prosecutors have provided notice that if convicted as charged, Lolohea faces sentencing to a mandatory term of imprisonment and will not be eligible for probation.
