The facility is expected to reopen on Sept. 18, with regular operations hours.

While the Keaʻau site is temporarily unavailable, residents are encouraged to use alternative nearby facilities:

  • Hilo Transfer Station (1471 Ho‘olaulima Road) – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Pāhoa Transfer Station (15-1870 Cemetery Road) – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This short-term closure is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve public infrastructure.
