The World Manta Day Festival will be held at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa from noon to 7 p.m., Sept. 6, against the backdrop of the oceanfront renowned for its nightly manta ray encounters. Attendees can immerse themselves in the world of these gentle giants while discovering the vital role they play in Hawaiʻi’s marine ecosystem.

As part of its conservation initiative, Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa has hosted the World Manta Day Festival as a free event since 2019.

“Through our partnership with the Manta Pacific Research Foundation, the World Manta Day Festival allows us to share this unique experience with the community while supporting education and conservation efforts that protect manta rays for generations to come,” said Geoff Pearson, general manager at Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa.

Distinguished local and international marine experts will share insights on manta cognition, ecology, marine ecotourism, and cultural practitioners will discuss the spiritual and cultural significance of manta rays in Hawaiʻi.

Together, they will help the community deepen the collective understanding of marine life and promote marine protection through presentations, hands-on learning, and interactive family activities.

Founded in 2002, the Manta Pacific Research Foundation has long been at the forefront of manta ray conservation in Hawaiʻi. Led by President and Founder Keller Laros, the organization advocates for manta protection through research, legislation, and education.
