Update #3: Hāmākua wildland fire now 100% contained
Update at 3:22 p.m. Aug. 25: The Hawai‘i Fire Department reports the wildland fire near Pāʻauilo in Hāmākua District is 100% contained. Fire personnel will remain on scene to monitor the situation.
Update at 10:11 a.m. Aug. 25: The wildland fire in Hāmākua near is Pāʻauilo continues to have active burning and is still 75% contained.
Smoke and active burning can be seen from the fires, but firefighters and police are on the scene and there are no threats to the community at this time, according to the Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency.
There are no road closures, however, roads may close without notice. Civil Defense advises motorists to avoid the area when possible.

Update at 4 a.m. Aug. 25: The wildland fire in Hāmākua near Pāʻauilo is 75% contained and Highway 19 between miles 35 and 37 is now open.

Original post at 12:53 a.m. Aug. 25: The Hawaiʻi Fire Department reports a wildland fire in Hāmākua and has issued a wildfire watch for Pāʻauilo.
Highway 19 between miles 35 and 37 is closed, and the Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency advises motorists to avoid the area and use Hauola Road as a detour. Traffic delays are expected.
