A project to repair the Kaiwilahilahi and Honoliʻi Stream bridges in East Hawai‘i is being extended to February.

Conducted by Isemoto Contracting, the repair projects for both bridges, located on Old Māmalahoa Highway in Pāpaʻaloa and Kāhoa Street in Paukaʻa, began in January 2024 and were initially expected to be complete in August.

During initial repairs, however, additional damage was discovered, requiring an expanded scope of work and an extension of the project schedule, according to a news release from Hawai‘i County.

Motorists may encounter road closures, detours and/or delays within the construction areas. Local traffic is allowed only. Temporary traffic controls and/or flaggers will be directing traffic.
