39th annual Hawaiʻi Kūpuna Hula Festival and craft fair now just a month away

Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation invites everyone to the 39th annual Hawai‘i Kūpuna Hula Festival next month in Kona.

Nearly 300 kūpuna from Hawai‘i Island, Molokaʻi and Japan will perform during the event Sept. 10-11, which is presented by the department’s Elderly Activities Division and hosted at OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa in Keauhou.

Doors open at 4 p.m. Showtime is at 5 p.m. both days.

The festival also features a craft fair with jewelry, Hawaiian apparel, fresh flowers, art and crafts as well as more.

Craft fair hours are from 8 a.m. tp 5 p.m. both days. There is no admission charge.

Tickets for the hula performances are $20 per night and can be purchased at:

  • Elderly Recreation Services, 127 Kamana St., Hilo.
  • West Hawai‘i Civic Center, Building B, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, Kailua-Kona.

Community members can also purchase tickets at the door each night of the hula performances, until they are sold out.
