Temporary water service shutdown scheduled in Pāpaʻaloa area
In preparation for the Kaiwilahilahi Bridge project, the Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply will temporarily shut off water service in the Pāpaʻaloa area to install a bypass waterline near the Pāpaʻaloa Country Store and Pāpaʻaloa Hongwanji.
Customers living in and around Pāpaʻaloa will experience low water pressure or no water during a temporary service shutdown from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A Department of Water Supply potable water tanker for public use will be stationed at Pāpaʻaloa Park.
The affected areas are off Old Māmalahoa Highway between Hulaʻana Place and Kapehu Camp, which includes Lanikai Place, Pāpaʻaloa Senior Housing Facility, Kekoʻa Camp, and any adjacent side roads and lanes in Pāpaʻaloa.
Upon resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time customers may notice turbid or discolored water. If there is trapped air in the plumbing, it will be released as customers initially use the water.
Affected customers are advised to take precautions to protect their property and facilities, such as disabling electrical power to pumps and any other devices whose normal operation may depend on water pressure or water supply.
For questions, call the Department of Water Supply district supervisors William OʻNeil or Darroll Naungayan at 808-887-3030.
