Paving work to begin at Onekahakaha Beach Park in Keaukaha
Hawai‘i County is notifying the public that a paving project begins June 23 at Onekahakaha Beach Park in Keaukaha.

The project at the beach park just off Puhi Bay, between Chalk’s Beach and Hilo Yacht Club, in the Hilo coastal community is aimed at addressing concerns raised during a recent community meeting and includes repaving the park’s upper parking lot as well as its main entry road.
Closures are anticipated during the following times.
PARTIAL PARK CLOSURE, June 23-24
The upper parking lot and access driveway leading to it will be closed. Other areas of the beach park will remain open, including the main road and parking area on the park’s west end, nearest pavilions 2, 3 and 4.
However, parking availability will be extremely limited during this time.
FULL PARK CLOSURE, June 25
The park is scheduled to be closed to allow for repaving the roadway leading into the park. Access will be restricted to residents of Machida Lane only.
The park is expected to reopen June 26, barring unforeseen delays because of weather or other circumstances.
Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works is performing the paving work in collaboration with the Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation.
The county appreciates the public’s patience during the improvement project.
