Pohoiki lifeguards saved two distressed swimmers Sunday afternoon

Lifeguards at Pohoiki Beach reported two swimmers in distress and called for medical and rescue assistance.

At about 1:34 p.m. Sunday, two first responders arrived and found that lifeguards had brought the swimmers to shore separately.

First responders assessed, treated, and transported the 37-year-old man and 16-year-old girl to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center for near drowning, hypothermia, and exhaustion.
