Multiple Hawaiʻi fire department units were dispatched to a structure fire at the Sacred Hearts Public Shelter Housing Units at 3 p.m. Friday.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department was on the scene upon arrival, cleared the area of bystanders, and assisted in evacuating nearby structures.

Upon arrival, personnel found a 10-by-10 single-occupant, wooden-framed residential structure with contents 90% involved in the fire. According to the report, fire was lapping out of the doorway and windows.

No other structures were threatened by the fire, and the lone occupant was outside the structure.

Other units were canceled due to the small size of the structure fire.

The woman, observed to be in her 60s, was evaluated by emergency services personnel and transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center for further treatment of possible smoke inhalation.

The fire was extinguished, and the housing unit was overhauled without incident.
