Update: Hawaiʻi firefighters contained Honokaʻa brush fire

Update: The Hawaiʻi Fire Department reported the brush fire that occurred earlier today in Honokaʻa was mostly contained and Lehua Street was open by 4 p.m..

Original: The Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency alerted the public that the Hawaiʻi Fire Department are responding to a brush fire between Lehua and Mamane Street in Honokaʻa.

Hawaiʻi Island fire and police personnel are responding to the brush fire and have closed Lehua Street at this time, according to Civil Defense.

The public is asked to avoid the are as first responders continue to fight the fire. Civil Defense will update if conditions change.
