Update: Brush fire in Puna scorches 20 acres and is 70% contained

April 27 update at 5:51 p.m.: A brush fire that ignited this afternoon in the Puna District has scorched 20 acres and is 70% contained.

The fire is burning in Fern Acres between Plumeria Street and Lehua Street. According to Hawai‘i County Civil Defense Agency, no residential structures were reported damaged. 

Firefighter personnel remain on scene and fire vehicles occupy both Plumeria and Lehua Streets. 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area. The scene is expected to be clear later this evening.

Original post: Hawai’i Fire Department has responded to a brush fire in Mountain View this afternoon.

Plumeria Street to Lehua Street in the Fern Acres Subdivision is expected to be closed for the next several hours. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
