Update: Flood advisory for North Kona has been cancelled
Update at 7:30 p.m. April 20: Forecasters with the National Weather Service have cancelled the flood advisory for North Kona.
The radar shows that the heavy rain diminished over the district and flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat.
Original at 4:45 p.m. April 20: Excessive rainfall over North Kona has caused the National Weather Service in Honolulu to issue a flood advisory for the district.
The flood advisory is in effect until 7:15 p.m. Sunday evening, however, it may need to be extended beyond if flooding persists as additional heavy showers are possible through the rest of the afternoon.
Locations that may experience flooding include: Kailua-Kona; Puʻuanahulu; Kalaoa; Holualoa; Honalo; Puako; Pohakuloa Training Area; Kona International Airport; Waikōlōa Beach and Mauna Lani.
Rain was falling at a rate of up to 2 inches per hour around 4:11 p.m. with the heaviest rainfall near Puʻuanahulu. The public is warned to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.
