A partnership between two Hawai‘i County departments has resulted in the restoration of a needed parking area at a West Hawai‘i park.

The departments of Parks and Recreation and Public Works completed a project to provide peripheral parking area that can now safely accommodate about 80 vehicles at Clarence Lum Won Park, located at 81-877 Nape St., in Kealakekua.

The parking area will be available for public use starting Saturday.

“For years, residents have been asking for parking solutions at Clarence Lum Won Park, and we are pleased to be able to address these concerns,” said Hawai‘i County Mayor Kimo Alameda. “This project is a good example of what can happen when we work across departments to meet the needs of our communities.”

The 5-acre park, also known as “Kona Scenic,” includes sports fields, a comfort station, and an outdoor basketball court.
