Two men wanted on warrants in separate Ka‘ū incidents arrested, charged

Detectives with Hawai‘i Police Department’s Area II Criminal Investigation Section earlier this week located and arrested two Ka‘ū men wanted on outstanding bench warrants in separate incidents in the Ocean View area.

Both men were also subsequently charged with several offenses related to the incidents for which the warrants were issued.

Andrew Amon of Ocean View was arrested at 10:55 a.m. April 13 at a residence in the 92-8600 block of Orchid Parkway in Ocean View. The 29-year-old was charged later that day with:

  • First-degree theft (automobile).
  • Unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
  • Second-degree assault.
  • Abuse of a family/household member.
  • Three counts of third-degree assault.
  • Second-degree criminal property damage.
  • Two counts of fourth-degree criminal property damage.
  • Habitual property crime.
  • Violation of terms and condition of probation.
  • Contempt of court.

He appeared April 14 in Kona District and Circuit Court.

The Ocean View man is also a suspect in a separate theft investigation, which was sent to the Hawai‘i County prosecutor’s office for review.

Kaleo Mello of Nā‘ālehu was arrested April 14 after Hawai‘i Police Department issued a media release asking for assistance with locating the 23-year-old, who was considered armed and dangerous.

Based on tips provided to police, detectives located Mello at a residence in the Green Sands subdivision.

He was subsequently charged with:

  • First-degree burglary.
  • Second-degree theft.
  • Unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

He was scheduled to appear April 15 in Kona Circuit Court.
