Suspects in Jeep rental theft from Kona lot officially charged

A man and woman were officially charged in connection to the theft of a rental Jeep from a rental car lot in Kona.
The Jeep Wrangler was originally reported stolen between March 6 and March 8 from Alamo Rental Car in Kona.
Thirty-seven-year-old Patrick John Lindsey of Kurtistown and Krysta Macayan, 39, of Hilo, were taken into custody on April 2 and the Jeep was recovered from a Vista Drive residence.
On April 4, Lindsey and Macayan made their initial appearances in Hilo District Court. Lindsey’s bail was initially maintained at $59,000. Over Prosecutors’ objections, Macayan was released on supervised release.
Prosecutors later charged both Lindsey and Macayan via Felony Information. On April 9, over Prosecutors’ objections, Lindsey’s bail was reduced to $15,000 at his initial appearance in Hilo Circuit Court for return on the State’s Felony Information warrant.
He later posted bail.
Lindsey was charged with first-degree theft, second-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and two counts of third-degree theft. If convicted as charged, Lindsey may be subject to a mandatory prison term and not eligible for probation.
Macayan was charged with first-degree theft, first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, driving without a license and two counts of third-degree theft.
The most serious offense, first-degree theft, is a class B felony offense that carries a penalty of either a 10-year prison term or four years probation and up to 18 months in jail.
