Everett T.K. Akimseu, 64, of Hilo was charged with offenses related to failing to comply with covered offender registration requirements that stemmed from a prior conviction, according to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

Everett T.K. Akimseu

Akimseu was convicted in two counts of sexual assault in the third degree and failed to comply with covered offender requirements between April 2021 and December 2024. A “covered offender” in Hawaiʻi must register with the police chief within three working days of the earliest of several events, which include, arrival in the state, release from incarceration, or conviction for a covered offense, unless incarcerated.

On Monday afternoon, Akimseu made his initial appearance in Hilo Circuit Court where his bail was maintained at $35,000.00 and he was ordered to appear for further proceedings on June 17.

Akimseu was charged by information – a charge initiated by a prosecutor – and is facing seven counts of failure to comply with covered offender registration requirements. This is a class C felony offense that carries a penalty of either four years probation and up to twelve months in jail, or a five-year prison term.
